Commerce Department Conducts Outreach Programme at Nikung Lee Orphanage

5/5/2026: The Department of Commerce organized an outreach visit to Nikung Lee Orphanage at Chongey, Gangtok with the objective of engaging with the children and contributing to their well-being through educational and recreational activities. The VI semester students’ along with the all the faculties of commerce department participated in the outreach programme. The visit provided students with an opportunity to serve the community while fostering social responsibility and compassion.

During the program, the Commerce students conducted an interactive awareness session on health and hygiene, emphasizing the importance of maintaining personal cleanliness, proper handwashing practices, and healthy daily habits. The students also educated the children about waterborne diseases, discussing their causes, symptoms, preventive measures, and the significance of consuming safe and clean drinking water. The sessions were designed to be engaging and informative, encouraging active participation from the children. The students also prepared momo for the hostel children during lunch hours.

TB Awareness-cum-Screening and NCD Screening Programme Conducted at SGC Burtuk

Date: 29th July 2026

Venue: Sikkim Government College, Burtuk

As an initiative of Sikkim Government College, Burtuk, a TB Awareness-cum-Screening Programme along with Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Screening under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was successfully conducted on 29th July 2026 at the OBC Girls’ Hostel, Sikkim Government College, Burtuk. The programme was organised by the District Tuberculosis Centre, Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim with full support and cooperation

from the college authority along with the Health Club of Sikkim Government College, Burtuk. Both teaching and non-teaching staff actively participated in the programme. The participants underwent health screening which included assessment of TB symptoms and risk factors, blood pressure measurement, blood sugar testing and other health assessments in accordance with the guidelines of

the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP). Necessary counselling and medical guidance were provided to the participants and those requiring further medical evaluation were guided accordingly. This initiative contributed to the early detection of tuberculosis and non communicable diseases while encouraging the adoption of preventive healthcare practices

SGC Burtuk Students Honoured with Prestigious Governor’s Medal for NCC Excellence

Sikkim Government College, Burtuk Proudly Celebrates Governor’s Medal Awardees

Sikkim Government College, Burtuk is proud to announce that around ten students from our institution have been awarded the prestigious Governor’s Medal for their outstanding achievements and dedicated service in the National Cadet Corps (NCC).

The Governor’s Medal was conferred in recognition of their successful participation and excellence in various NCC activities, including Adventure Courses, Leadership Camps, Mountaineering Courses, International Indo–Bhutan Camps, and the Special National Integration Camp (SNIC).

The Governor’s Medal recipients are:

Silver Medalists:

Tayahang Rai, Katrena Gurung, Eknesh Tamang, Sony Kumari, Palden Lepcha, Anjal Tamang

The award ceremony was held at Lok Bhawan Gangtok on 14july 2026.

Inauguration of Lepcha Language Classes and Interactive Session with Renjyong Mutanchi Ringmom Kurmom

29/07/2026: Inauguration of Lepcha language classes in our college an important milestone in preserving and promoting our rich cultural heritage. A special interactive session also organised between the Renjyong Mutanchi Ringmom Kurmom (Lepcha Literary Organisation), led by Ren O.T. Lepcha, and the students of the newly established Department of Lepcha at Sikkim Government College, Burtuk.

During the interaction, Ren O.T. Lepcha and members of the organisation shared valuable insights on the importance of preserving and promoting the Lepcha language, literature, and cultural heritage. They encouraged the students to pursue their studies with dedication and to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of Lepcha scholarship. As a gesture of support for the newly established department, the organisation donated a collection of Lepcha books relevant to the undergraduate curriculum. The students were urged to make the best use of these academic resources and strive for excellence in their studies.

Awareness Programme on Nasha Mukt Bharat, MY Bharat & Viksit Bharat Held at Lok Bhavan

On 2nd August 2026, a significant awareness programme under the initiatives Nasha Mukt Bharat, MY Bharat, and Viksit Bharat was organized at Lok Bhavan, Gangtok. The programme witnessed the participation of students and faculty members from various colleges located in and around the capital, represented by students along with their NSS Programme Officer. Sikkim Government College, Burtuk was also represented at the programme. Dean of students welfare Dr. Sharmila Karki attended the event along with students from the college. The programme proved to be an enriching and inspiring experience, providing participants with valuable insights into the importance of a drug-free society, youth empowerment, and the collective vision of building a developed India. The event was initiated under the leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, who addressed the gathering virtually. His inspiring message emphasized the vital role of the youth in nation-building, encouraging them to become responsible citizens and active contributors towards realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat. The virtual interaction added immense value to the programme and motivated the participants to actively support the objectives of the campaign. The students greatly appreciated the opportunity to be part of such a prestigious event. The programme was informative, interactive, and highly motivating, leaving a lasting impression on everyone present. It reinforced the importance of awareness, social responsibility, and active youth participation in creating a healthier, stronger, and more progressive nation. Overall, the programme was a grand success and a memorable learning experience for all the participants from Sikkim Government College, Burtuk.
